DJ Pots Predicts 2-1 Victory for Amakhosi
By Sello Masilo
The 2025 Nedbank Cup final is set to ignite the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban today, as arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates face off in a highly anticipated Soweto Derby. Free State soccer analyst DJ Pots Mzwandile Sontyale has boldly predicted a 2-1 victory for Kaizer Chiefs, citing the team’s resilience and determination to overcome recent challenges.
“Despite Chiefs’ shortcomings, the club will work 10 times harder. I believe the team has a strong squad,” said DJ Pots, expressing confidence in Amakhosi’s ability to rise to the occasion.
DJ Pots’ Confidence in Kaizer Chiefs
DJ Pots’ prediction is rooted in Kaizer Chiefs’ impressive journey to the final, including a notable 2-1 comeback victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinals. He believes that the team’s hunger for silverware and the desire to end a decade-long trophy drought will fuel their performance.
“This is more than just a match; it’s a statement. Chiefs have the heart and the history to claim this victory,” he added.
The analyst also highlighted the importance of key players stepping up, noting that the blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talents could be the difference-maker.
“Players like Makabi Lilepo and Wandile Duba have shown they can rise to big occasions. Their contributions will be vital,” DJ Pots emphasized.
Team Analysis: Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs, under the guidance of coach Nasreddine Nabi, have shown resilience in cup competitions, despite a challenging league campaign. Their path to the final included a 3-1 quarterfinal win over Stellenbosch FC and the aforementioned semifinal triumph against Sundowns.
Offensively, the team relies on the creativity of Gaston Sirino and the finishing prowess of Lilepo. Defensively, the experience of Edmilson Dove and Inácio Miguel provides stability, while goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has been instrumental in key moments.
In the Betway Premiership, Chiefs have struggled for consistency, currently sitting ninth on the table. However, the Nedbank Cup presents an opportunity to salvage their season and restore pride.
Team Analysis: Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates, led by coach José Riveiro, enter the final with momentum, aiming for a historic third consecutive Nedbank Cup title. Their recent 2-1 league victory over Chiefs adds to their confidence.
The Buccaneers boast a potent attack, with Evidence Makgopa and Relebohile Mofokeng leading the line. Midfield dynamo Thalente Mbatha and defender Tapelo Xoki provide balance and solidity.
Pirates’ path to the final included a 1-0 semifinal win over Marumo Gallants, showcasing their ability to grind out results. In the league, they are in strong contention for the title, reflecting their overall form.
Head-to-Head and Historical Context
The Soweto Derby is one of Africa’s most storied rivalries. In their last five encounters, Pirates have had the upper hand, winning four times. However, finals often defy form, and Chiefs will be eager to reverse the trend.
This final marks the first Nedbank Cup showdown between the two since 2006, adding historical significance. A victory for Chiefs would not only end their trophy drought but also serve as a statement of resurgence.
