Kaizer Chiefs Suffer Defeat at the Hands of Chippa United Due to Missed Opportunities

Chippa United Capitalises on Kaizer Chiefs’ Wastefulness with 2-0 Victory

The Kaizer Chiefs were punished for their inefficiency in front of goal, as Chippa United capitalised on their chances to secure a 2-0 victory at Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday, April 6.

Despite creating a multitude of chances, Cavin Johnson’s men were unable to convert, leaving Darren Johnson with relatively few difficult saves to make. This victory marks Chippa United’s second consecutive win, propelling them temporarily to 10th place in the league standings, just a single point behind the Amakhosi, who are seated in the 8th spot.

Following recent setbacks against Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City, Chippa aimed to continue their winning momentum from their 2-0 midweek triumph over Cape Town Spurs. In contrast, the Glamour Boys were desperate to end a three-game skid that included a recent 1-0 defeat to Stellenbosch.

The game kicked off at a high pace, with the visitors squandering three early opportunities. Edmilson Dove missed an early chance only two minutes in, following a failed clearance by the opposition defence from a corner. Dove then sent another attempt soaring over the crossbar shortly after.

Chiefs’ Ranga Chivaviro also missed the target as the team pressed for an opening goal. Despite the initial pressure from the Chiefs, Chippa United broke the deadlock in the 21st minute through Bienvenu Eva Nga, who beat Bruce Bvuma after receiving a precise pass from Justice Chabalala.

Though Eva Nga missed an opportunity to extend the lead further, Sinoxolo Kwayiba netted the ball past Bvuma to double Chippa’s advantage.

The Kaizer Chiefs endeavoured to respond, with Dillon Solomons and Chivaviro both attempting shots that failed to hit the target.

The second half saw Chivaviro again miss the mark, but Darren Johnson was finally tested in the 64th minute, making crucial saves to deny Christian Saile and later substitute Siyethemba Sithebe.

As the match neared its conclusion, the Chiefs struggled to find the back of the net, with substitute Wandile Duba coming close but still unable to reduce the deficit. As a result, Chiefs faced their third defeat in four matches, a troubling trend that raises serious concerns for Johnson and his squad.

Looking ahead, Chippa United will face SuperSport United as the league picks back up on April 20, following the Nedbank Cup weekend. Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs are set to travel to Richards Bay, hoping to bounce back and climb the league standings.
