Kaizer Chiefs player, Luke Fleurs, has been tragically killed during a car hijacking in Honeydew. The unfortunate event unfolded on a Wednesday night at a petrol station in the Johannesburg suburb of Florida.

As details surrounding the event emerge, it paints a chilling image of the final moments of the 24-year-old defender.

Authorities have verified the occurrence, detailing that Fleurs was at the petrol station, evidently waiting for service, when he was approached by assailants. The gunmen demanded he exit his vehicle, a command that ultimately led to the fatal confrontation involving gunfire.

The assailants did not stop at taking Fleurs’ life; they also made away with his car, leaving behind a scene of terror. “One suspect drove off with the victim’s car followed by his accomplice,” detailed Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo, recounting the immediate aftermath. Fleurs was promptly taken to the nearest medical facility, where he was pronounced dead, a single bullet to the upper body having claimed his life.

“Police have opened a case of murder and car hijacking for investigation, and no arrests have been made yet,” Masondo added, signaling the beginning of what may be a lengthy hunt for the perpetrators.

Luke Fleurs’ journey in football began in 2013 at the Ubuntu Cape Town Academy. His ascent in the sport was marked by significant promise and ability, culminating in his association with one of South Africa’s premier football clubs, Kaizer Chiefs. His untimely demise has not only robbed his team of a valuable player but the sport, of a young, burgeoning talent.
