Kaizer Chiefs Sign Sibongiseni Mthethwa in Last-Minute Transfer Deal
 Sports @ Central News

With only two days remaining in the current transfer window, Kaizer Chiefs have made a significant signing by agreeing terms with Sibongiseni Mthethwa from Stellenbosch FC. The announcement was made on Thursday, and the 29-year-old Bafana international has penned a three-year deal that will run until June 2026.

Mthethwa, commonly known as ‘Ox’, has previously played for Royal Eagles and Black Leopards before joining Stellenbosch. Last season, he featured in 29 matches for Stellenbosch and made his debut for Bafana Bafana in September 2022.

Kaizer Motaung Jr., the Sporting Director of Kaizer Chiefs, expressed his excitement about the signing. He commented, “We warmly welcome Sibongiseni Mthethwa to the team. We know he’s a good player with great experience under his belt. We believe that he will hit the ground running and contribute straight away. We look forward to many great performances in the coming seasons.”

Motaung Jr. also thanked Stellenbosch for their professionalism during the negotiations and expressed his anticipation for the continuation of their working relationship.

Chiefs secured the services of Mthethwa by triggering the buyout clause in his contract. Stellenbosch’s CEO, Rob Benadie, confirmed this, saying, “When Mthethwa initially joined the club, a buyout clause was negotiated into his contract, and that has now been activated by Kaizer Chiefs.”

Benadie further added, “It’s always sad to part ways with a player and person of Ox’s calibre, but we would like to wish him all the best in this next step of his career. He was a consummate professional throughout his time in Stellenbosch, and his influence on and off the field will be missed.”

Apart from his contributions on the pitch, Mthethwa was also actively involved in the Stellenbosch community, which earned him recognition and praise. The club thanked him for his immense contributions over the last two years.

Mthethwa will be moving to Johannesburg and will officially join his new teammates at training on Monday, 25th September.

Fans can expect to see him donning the Gold & Black jersey of Amakhosi in the upcoming matches and making a significant impact on the team’s performance.
