Kaizer Chiefs continued their strong start to the 2024 Betway Premiership season with a commanding 3-1 win over AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night. This marked Amakhosi’s second consecutive league win under the guidance of head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
From the outset, Chiefs dominated the game with swift ball movement and high energy. Ranga Chivaviro opened the scoring early in the 12th minute, pouncing on a rebound after his initial shot was parried by AmaZulu goalkeeper Olwethu Mzimela. Just two minutes later, Gaston Sirino stunned the home crowd with a spectacular long-range effort to double the lead. AmaZulu’s defence looked shaky as Chiefs’ Inacio Miguel headed in from a set-piece in the 23rd minute, putting Chiefs in a commanding 3-0 lead within the first half-hour of play.
AmaZulu, however, refused to go down without a fight. Early in the second half, Etiosa Ighodaro pulled one back for Usuthu in the 47th minute, bringing some life back into the hosts. Despite a few close chances, including a shot from Tshepang Moremi that hit the post, AmaZulu couldn’t find a way past Chiefs’ defence again. Rushwin Dortley stood out with his crucial defensive interventions, particularly a vital block to deny Ighodaro a second goal.
The victory sees Chiefs walking away with all three points, maintaining momentum after their earlier league win. With solid performances across the pitch, they will be aiming to build on this success as the season progresses.
Key Performances:
• Ranga Chivaviro: His early goal set the tone for Chiefs’ attacking dominance.
• Gaston Sirino: A standout with his long-range goal that cemented Chiefs’ lead.
• Inacio Miguel: His headed goal from a set-piece added a crucial third to secure victory.
Final Score:
AmaZulu 1-3 Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs now look ahead to continuing their winning form in the upcoming fixtures as they aim to challenge for top honours this season .
