In a thrilling Betway Premiership clash at Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs staged a remarkable comeback to draw 2-2 with Magesi FC on Wednesday. The newly promoted Magesi looked set for a famous win, holding a two-goal lead until Chiefs’ Mduduzi Shabalala struck twice in quick succession, securing a valuable point for his team. The draw extends Magesi’s unbeaten league run to four games, a streak highlighted by their impressive victory over Orlando Pirates in the Carling Knockout.
Magesi took an early lead when Wonderboy Makhubu headed in a cross from John Mokone just six minutes into the game. The hosts continued to push and later doubled their advantage in the 72nd minute as Edmore Chirambadare converted a well-executed set-piece. However, just as victory seemed assured, Chiefs capitalized on a lapse in Magesi’s defense. Shabalala found the net twice within the 77th and 78th minutes, demonstrating resilience in the face of potential defeat.
Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi was eager for his side to break a two-match losing streak, but despite the comeback, his team remains outside the top eight. Magesi, under Clinton Larsen, continue to exceed expectations in their debut season, proving themselves as formidable opponents .
