TV personality and rapper Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye will be making a return to the dock on the 23rd of April, 2024, as his case has been adjourned at the Johannesburg Central Magistrate’s Court. This postponement permits legal parties to assess evidence expected to impact proceedings substantially.

As the case unfolded on Tuesday, Jub Jub’s need for clarity was evident. “Previously Jub Jub requested the State to give him more details about when and where the alleged offences took place,” Prosecutor Agnes Bezuidenhout divulged, stating that they required time to amass supplementary details from various witnesses as per the defence’s demand.

His attorney, Ntsako Baloyi, previously highlighted the necessity for this deferral in November at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court stating, “We were requesting a postponement to get further particulars from the State.”

The prosecution’s melee with finding the information was echoed by Phindi Mjonondwane, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), as she confirmed the particulars sought involve specifics on “dates and places where the alleged offences took place.”

Amidst legal wrangling, Maarohanye currently stands accused of grim charges including three counts of rape, two counts of attempted murder, and one count of assault. Despite the gravity of the allegations, he has been afforded bail at R100 000.

The accusations against the public figure escalated when actress Amanda Du-Pont made harrowing revelations, claiming her past two-year liaison with Maarohanye was marred by ceaseless abuse that was “physical, emotional, and sexual” in nature.

Similarly, Masechaba Khumalo, a radio heavyweight, exposed her harrowing experiences with Maarohanye through an affidavit that went viral, intensifying the controversy.

In a turnabout, Maarohanye, who faced a previous conviction and served time behind bars, has acquiesced some remorse: “Last year, Jub Jub asserted that he regretted everything he had done and said his incarceration had given him important life lessons.”
