Klerksdorp – Frustrated and angry protesters of Ward 14(Extension 25) blocked road access to Jouberton informal settlement at R30 road between Kanana and Klerksdorp.

According to one of the community leaders OlebogengModutlwa, their protest has nothing to do with preventing the Mayoral Roadshow programme by newly appointed executive mayor of Matlosana Local Municipality.

Modutlwa have accused the Director for Planning & Human Settlements Baganne Choche of not addressing their service delivery and housing related issues. He continued to say that community members were provoked by the delay of services needed to be delivered by the municipality.

Some community members have accused police officials of using rubber bullets and teargas to prevent them from protestingand burning tyres.

The newly appointed executive mayor of the municipality, Rose Thabanchu is expected to be in the same township as she continues with her Mayoral Roadshow programme on Wednesday, 13 October.

According to the Spokesperson for the Office of the Executive Mayor, Nick Mapheelle, the purpose of the roadshow is to focus on issues of service delivery across the City and in the process integrate the programmes of the respective government departments.

This is a developing story.
