Johannesburg residents using prepaid water meters in specific areas have until Sunday, 24 November 2024, to update their meters to avoid service disruptions. The Token Identifier (TID) for all Standard Transfer Specification (STS) prepaid water meters is set to expire on this date, necessitating an upgrade to ensure continued functionality.Johannesburg Prepaid Water Meter Update Deadline Approaches

Affected Areas

The following areas are impacted by this update:
• Orange Farm
• Cosmo City
• Orlando East and West
• Diepkloof in Soweto

Background

The rollout for upgrading the systems from Key Revision Number (KRN) one to KRN two commenced in July 2024. This upgrade is crucial as the current TID will run out of range after 24 November, causing prepaid meters to stop accepting new tokens. Johannesburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Tshabalala emphasized the importance of this update to prevent service interruptions.

Action Required

Residents are urged to ensure their prepaid water meters are updated before the deadline. Failure to do so will result in the inability to load new water credits, leading to potential water supply issues.

How to Update

To update your prepaid water meter:
1. Contact Johannesburg Water: Reach out to Johannesburg Water’s customer service for guidance on the update process.
2. Follow Instructions: Adhere to the provided instructions to complete the meter update.
3. Confirm Update: Ensure the meter reflects the successful update to KRN two.

Additional Information

For more details, visit Johannesburg Water’s official website or contact their customer service centers. Staying informed and proactive will help ensure uninterrupted water services.
