There is no need to salute, celebrate or honour people who have been forced out of work, not because they planned to, but because they are forced to.
Madoda Maxakwe, the most useless, arrogant and liberal GCEO of SABC argues that they need to lean the structure of the public broadcaster to save costs.
In a normal situation, the working class formations would have been up in arms, but they are in the forefront to celebrate people who have been retrenched. This is nothing short of tragic and nonsensical.
In 1998, my father, who was merely 49 years old at the time, was forced to take a “voluntary package” from Telkom. This after the ANC government allowed, and even practically supervised the liberal, anti-revolutionary privatization of Telkom. In reality, my father was expelled, the so-called voluntary package was just a liberal romanticisation of expulsion.
It would seem we are back to the era just after 1996, when the ANC adopted liberal policy stances, at the expense of the working class.
My sympathies to the 621 workers expelled by SABC, their families, colleagues and friends. Phephi!
