Johannesburg – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, also known as the Hawks, confirmed a raid at the South African Football Association’s (SAFA) headquarters at Nasrec. The raid, which occurred on the afternoon of Friday, resulted in the seizure of various items including crucial documents.
Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale, in a statement to the press, detailed the operation’s scope. “The Serious Commercial Crime Investigation executed search seizure warrants this morning, 08 March 2024, at the South African Football Association’s office. The warrants were prompted by allegations of fraud and theft amounting to R1.3 million,” Mogale disclosed.
The allegations levelled against SAFA’s top brass implicate none other than Danny Jordaan, the seated president of the association. From 2014 to 2018, Jordaan is accused of misappropriating SAFA’s resources for personal benefit. According to the Hawks, these resources include hiring services from a private security firm for personal safety needs and engaging a Public Relations company without obtaining necessary clearance from the governing body at SAFA.

“The president is also reported to have violated SAFA statutes thus prejudicing SAFA an actual loss of R1.3 million,” Colonel Mogale added. The statement reflected an image of thorough investigation as the Hawks reported the confiscation of a range of devices. “During the search, a laptop, external hard drives, a USB and documents were seized,” concluded the Hawks’ spokesperson.
