BOTSWANA – 27 August 2024 – South African gospel music icon, Solly Moholo, has been hospitalized in Botswana following a sudden illness that struck him while he was in the country to launch his highly anticipated album, Wubani O zo Pepeza. The gospel star, known for his energetic performances and hits such as “Tsoha Jonase,” had just returned to his residence in Botswana after a series of promotional events when he fell ill, prompting his team to rush him to a nearby hospital.
According to a statement released by his management team, Moholo’s condition has shown signs of improvement since his hospitalization. “Ntate Solly Moholo is showing signs of improvement today compared to yesterday. During this challenging time, the family kindly requests that you keep him in your prayers for a full recovery. We will provide updates as they become available,” the statement read.
A Struggle Beyond the Music
This health scare comes after what has been a particularly challenging year for Moholo, both personally and professionally. Earlier in 2024, he opened up about his battle with depression during an interview on The Venting Podcast With Gogo Skhotheni. The singer candidly discussed his struggles with mental health, revealing that he had contemplated suicide on several occasions due to the pressures of his career and personal life. Despite these challenges, the launch of his new album was meant to mark a significant comeback for the artist.
Community and Fan Reactions
The news of Moholo’s hospitalization has sparked a wave of concern and support across social media platforms. Fans and fellow musicians have taken to X (formerly Twitter) and other social media channels to express their well-wishes and prayers for his swift recovery. One user tweeted, “Sending prayers to Solly Moholo for a speedy recovery. May he come back stronger and continue blessing us with his music.” Another post read, “Solly Moholo has been a beacon of hope through his music; now it’s our turn to send him the hope he needs.”
Statement from His Team
In a Facebook post, Moholo’s management reiterated the request for prayers and support from his fans. The post also mentioned that the team would remain in Botswana until Moholo’s health fully recovers. The family and team expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received from the public, acknowledging the crucial role that community support plays during such difficult times.
Health Update and Future Plans
While there has been no official word on when Moholo might be discharged from the hospital, his team has assured fans that he is receiving the best possible care. As the situation develops, fans are encouraged to keep following updates from official channels.
