In a heated exchange, Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and ANCYL President Collen Malatji have locked horns over the alleged plan to sell state-owned companies.
Malatji went as far as threatening to sell even South Africans if Gordhan is not stopped. However, Gordhan has fiercely hit back, demanding a public apology from Malatji for his thoughtless statement.
Malatji, seemingly unafraid of the minister, boldly stated, “We are told he is feared. We don’t fear him.” These remarks have further fueled the fire between the two.
Ellis Myandu, Gordhan’s spokesperson said the ongoing clash has led to severe distortions of the truth about Eskom’s restructuring by those with vested interests, aiming to tarnish Gordhan’s reputation and undermine the government’s efforts in restructuring state-owned companies.
Myandu, exclaimed, “Minister Gordhan said those seeking the truth should read the statement issued by the Department of Public Enterprises last week to address false claims about Eskom’s restructuring.”

Gordhan said the public should be aware of these attacks not only from Malatji but also from counter revolutionaries and discredited individuals. “These attacks highlight the urgency of the ongoing reform of State-Owned Companies (SOCs) and the potential consequences of any disruptions.”
Gordhan has declared that he will be meeting with the ANC Youth League soon to address these conflicts.
He remains steadfast in his commitment to revitalizing SOCs, combating corruption, and ensuring that they fulfill their role in the transformation and development of the South African economy.
Gordhan emphasized, “We have yet to solve the problem of corruption. Our efforts to restore SOCs aim to serve current and future generations.”
Gordhan further said the continuous spread of misinformation is evidence of a coordinated campaign driven by individuals with vested interests who prioritize personal gain over the nation’s well-being.
However, Gordhan confidently stated that this campaign, like many others before it, will ultimately fail.
“Our primary focus is to fulfill our mandate and ensure that SOCs achieve crucial national strategic objectives, even against all odds,” Minister Gordhan concluded.
