Stilfontein – The Gender Based Violence (GBV) case of Palesa Maruping, who was murdered during women’s month in August, has been postponed to 11th of October 2021 for further investigations.
Two male suspects who are charged with the murder and believed to be the mastermind behind the murder of Maruping will remain in custody until their next court appearance.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Provincial Spokesperson, Henry Mamothame confirmed that murder accused number 2; Matevane Mokatsanyane has provisionally abandoned his bail Application.

Maruping’s body was found hanged inside the bedroom of a house in Khuma Location near Stilfontein, Wednesday on 18th of August 2021 at approximately 12:55.
“With cooperation of members of the community, police questioned Matevane Mokatsanyane who is the owner of the house where the victim stayed and Tebogo Mokgomo who is the victim’s boyfriend. It was consequently established that the pair allegedly stole the victim’s two cell phones and locked her inside the house. They came back later the same day and allegedly hanged her,” said North West Police Spokesperson, Captain Aafje Botma.
Speaking to Free State Central News, Family Spokesperson William Molapo said that his family is trying their best to make sure that the daughter of the late Maruping, who is 9 years old, continues to enjoy the love of parenting from the family of Mareletse and Maruping.
Meanwhile, the Mining Affected Communities in United Action – MACUA Provincial Coordinator in North West, Mahadio Mohapi said they are disappointed and shocked at the fact that the case has been postponed.
