Franklin Mias, who is charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Geraldine Frazenberg, is expected to remain behind bars until his next court appearance in the Richmond District Court.
The matter has been postponed to 16 January 2024.
This comes after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) managed to oppose the bail of Mias.
He appeared in the Richmond District Court where he officially applied for bail.
It is alleged that in the early hours of the morning of Monday 30 October 2023, the accused together with his girlfriend, left their place of residence where they were staying with the victim’s mother in the town of Richmond in the Northern Cape.
Later in the day, the accused arrived home alone with his clothes covered in blood.
According to the NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane, the 48-year-old man later burned and washed some of his blood-stained clothes.
“The victim’s mother immediately reported the matter, but the suspect could not be traced. He was arrested the following day on Tuesday 31 October 2023, and detained for further investigations,” said Senokoatsane.
The suspect decided to point out where the 39-year-old was after being interviewed by the police, and the body of the victim was discovered by the members of the South African Police Service in a shallow earth pig hole, covered with sand, at the Golf ground near a school on Wednesday, 01 November 2023.
