Gauteng Social Development MEC Mbali Hlophe

Gauteng Social Development MEC Mbali Hlophe has acted swiftly to ensure the removal and safety of a toddler from her abusive mother. Nthabiseng Nhlapo faces severe backlash as a video emerges showing her violently kicking and standing on her child’s fragile neck.

Working with a non-profit organization, the department has made arrangements to take the child to a children’s home where he will receive the necessary care and support. A full health assessment has been conducted to determine the extent of the injuries caused by this horrendous ordeal.

In a statement, MEC Hlophe expressed her dismay that such an incident occurred during Women’s Month. Instead of celebrating women and promoting exemplary female figures, this incident serves as a painful reminder of the dark reality of child abuse.

Thankfully, the child is now safe, although understandably traumatized, as he cried for most of the day. The MEC and her department condemn acts of child abuse and call upon society to stand together in fighting against such heinous acts. “It is crucial that individuals report any instances of child abuse immediately. Our children deserve a safe and loving environment”.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched an investigation into this case of child abuse. Meanwhile, the motive behind Nthabiseng’s actions has been revealed – she was apparently trying to send a message to her baby’s father. Regardless of the circumstances, there is no justification for subjecting an innocent child to such violence.
