Lebogang Maile
The recent graduation ceremony held at ZK Mathews hall in Pretoria was not only a day of celebration for the University of South Africa (Unisa) students, but it also marked a remarkable achievement for Gauteng’s MEC for Human Settlements and Infrastructure Development, Lebogang Maile. Maile, a key figure in South Africa’s political landscape, obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
Unisa’s College of Law extended its sincere congratulations to MEC Maile for his dedication and perseverance in completing his studies. This achievement is a testament to his commitment to personal growth and development, as well as his passion for making a difference.
Among those who wholeheartedly congratulated Maile was Premier Panyaza Lesufi, his principal. Premier Lesufi expressed his pride in Maile’s accomplishments, tweeting, “Proudest moment Cde @LebogangMaile1 for obtaining your LLB degree cum laude. Congratulations, my cadre!”
MEC Maile belongs to a remarkable generation of liberation activists who gained political experience during South Africa’s crucial transition from apartheid to democracy. He has been actively involved in shaping the country’s political landscape and recently published a book entitled “Never too young to lead,” encouraging South Africa’s youth to rise and take charge. His message resonates with people of all ages, emphasizing that it’s never too early to lead and never too late to learn.
In addition to his LLB degree, Maile also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Management from the University of the Witwatersrand. Speaking about his aspirations, Maile shared his desire to contribute to the betterment of his country through the legal profession, beyond his political involvement. He expressed, “I have always wanted to be a lawyer to contribute towards shaping our country from different angles, not only through politics.” Maile plans to continue his studies next year and pursue his LLM degree.
Moreover, Maile highlighted the importance of education for tackling the challenges faced by the nation. He urged people, especially the youth, to view education as a fashionable and essential part of their lives. “Education is very important to help us as a nation find solutions to the challenges we face,” he emphasized.
