The Dr. KPD Maphalla Family Trust has announced the details pertaining to the memorial and funeral services of the late Dr Kgotso Pieter David Maphalla on behalf of the Maphalla Clan. He passed away in Bethlehem, aged 66, after prolonged illness on the 5th of April 2021.
Dr KPD Maphalla will be remembered as community builder, philanthropist, a truly gifted and inspirational man. He was a living testimony that the pen is powerful than the sword said the Premier of the Free State Mme Sefora Ntombela.
According to the Free State MEC of Education Dr Tate Makgoe, the late Dr Maphalla’s contribution to the education sector and conserving the culture and language of the Basotho people is unmatched . Some of his literature books such as Kabelwamanong and Tahleho are part of the school curriculum and have contributed in the preservation of the sesotho language said the MEC.
The Free State Premier and Free State MEC of Education has extended their deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the family and the Free State Community as they mourn the loss of Dr KPD Maphalla.
The late Dr. Maphalla has published more than 70 Sesotho literature projects. Most of his books were prescribed to be used for schools and tertiary level institutions. For more than 40 years as a writer, Dr. Maphalla had a passion for writing poetry and short stories. As a creative artist, Dr. Maphalla has played a big role in the formation of Qwaqwa community radio station called QwaQwa radio
