Arriving back on our TV screens after a 7-year hiatus, Xhosa hip-hop artist, iFani, whose real name is Mzayifani Mzondeleli Boltina, is making waves with his latest hit song “Lidlozi,” featuring El Nino.. The track was played today, 22 May 2024, at various times—7 AM, 11 AM, 4 PM, 6 PM, 8 PM, and 10 PM CAT—on MTV Base, Channel 322 on DStv.
iFani’s return to television is not just about his music. He made an appearance on the MTV show “Newsish” this past Tuesday, joining hosts Lerai_R and Harrison Mkhize, the well-known radio personality and musician.
The artist took to Facebook to express his joy and gratitude for this significant milestone: “History has been made 🙏🏽 Back on TV after 7 years 🥹 Thank you @mtvbasesouth Thank you @podcastwithmacg Thank you Chillers Thank you @content_connect_africa Thank you to all my hardcore fans Xhosa and non-Xhosa 🙏🏽.”
This remarkable development follows iFani’s special appearance on “Podcast and Chill with MacG” during the Eastern Cape tour. His return was sparked by an emotional and revealing segment on the podcast, where iFani discussed his financial difficulties and personal struggles.
In an interview on “The Venting Podcast” with Gogo Skhotheni last year, iFani revealed to Gogo Skhotheni’s husband, Monde Shange, that he had nearly spent six years in the hood after depleting his savings. This vulnerability continued on “Podcast and Chill with MacG,” where iFani shared profound insights into financial struggle and the subjective nature of being broke.
“You know, being broke is relative because there are people who get rich once a month, and then when the first comes, they are broke just like me. We are similar for 24 days, and then they come rich on the 25th, and then we go back to the 1st, and we are similar again,” iFani explained during the podcast.
The conversation took an even more personal turn when MacG asked, “How much money do you have in your bank account?” With honesty and a touch of humour, iFani revealed that he had just R1 783. In a twist of camaraderie, iFani then asked for MacG’s bank balance, which turned out to be around R700 in his savings account.
