Orangeville – A 36-year-old woman and her husband have been arrested and expected to appear in the Heilbron magistrate’s court on Monday for allegedly killing her mother and grandfather in the province’s town of Oranjeville.
It is also reported that their 10-yaer-old child, who was present at the time of the arrest, has been taken to a place of safety.
Reports by HeraldLive suggest that the two were arrested about 760km away after officilas of the K9 unit and flying squad saw a vehicle that was reported missing after the murders.
According to the Oranjeville South African Police Service (SAPS) Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the bodies were discovered at a house in Market Street at 6:15 pm on Thursday.
The 80-year-old man was found in the garage, while the 58-year-old woman was found in a courtyard with multiple stab wounds.
It has also been reported that the house had been ransacked and several household items, including TVs, a computer and other electronics were missing. The gold BMW 3 Series had also been stolen.
Officials saw the vehicle on licence-plate recognition cameras travelling towards Gqeberha. The K9 unit and flying squad stopped it on the N2.
“The vehicle was approached and lots of blood spatter was seen on the vehicle,” Parademics, SAPS and Firefighters South Africa Facebook post confirmed.
“The husband… informed us that they have been planning the murder of the parent for weeks as they were pressured for money and sold the items they took at a Cash Crusaders in Kroonstad. They then fled to the Uitenhage area, as he knew the area.”
