Free State Tourism SaamTrek

The 2nd annual Free State Tourism SaamTrek is set to bring new life into the tourism industry, according to Kgotso Tau, the Head of Tourism at DESTEA Free State.

This initiative aims to forge a strong partnership between the private sector and the government to restore the demand and supply of tourism in the region. By leveraging the unique and exciting offerings that the Free State has to offer, this event promises to reignite interest in the province.

Taking place from the 27th to the 28th of October 2023, at the iconic Phakisa Raceway in Welkom, DESTEA, along with key partners like the Free State Gambling, Liquor, and Tourism Authority, Lejweleputswa District Municipality, and Matjhabeng Local Municipality, have come together to host this two-day event. The aim is to attract tourists, travelers, and the local community to explore the beauty of the Free State and rediscover it as a top-notch destination.

The event intends to introduce visitors to a whole new side of the province, positioning the Free State as an entertainment hotspot for people of all ages and interests. What sets this event apart is its accessibility – with free entry, everyone can partake in the activities and entertainment on offer.

From a kiddie’s village and a rugby world cup final Fan Park to biker stunt shows, car drifting, music performances, food stalls, and tourism product exhibitions, there’s something for everyone at the Free State Tourism SaamTrek.

As the festive season draws near, Thabo Meeko, MEC for DESTEA, urges all Free Staters to explore the wonders in their own backyard and get involved in government initiatives like the Free State Tourism SaamTrek 2023. Not only does this support the growth of the local tourism industry, but it also makes a positive impact on the local economy.
