Suspect Sought by Police After 5-Year-Old Child Found Murdered in Virginia
The Free State Police are actively searching for a suspect following the tragic murder of a 5-year-old child in Virginia. An identikit has been compiled of a person of interest who may have crucial information to assist with the investigation.
According to Police Spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng, the young girl was abducted from her home on December 31, 2023. The police were immediately notified and, with the help of residents of Meloding, conducted a thorough search.
Tragically, on January 1, 2024, at approximately 13:00, a passer-by alerted the police to the discovery of the child’s body inside a river next to Virginia Correctional Services. The body was retrieved by the Welkom K9 Search and Rescue Unit and positively identified by a family member.
The results of the post-mortem examination revealed that the child had been the victim of a heinous crime, having been raped and murdered. A case of abduction, rape, and murder has been registered, and the suspect is currently at large.
The community is urged to come forward with any information that may assist in the apprehension of the perpetrator.
