Mama Africa Sentenced
By Thys Khiba – The Heilbron Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Samiya Minani also known as Mama Africa on 19 January for possession of drugs.
This comes after the 43-year-old drug dealer appeared before the court and pleaded guilty for possession of drugs.
The Hawks spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo confirmed the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Welkom received information on 14 July 2022, alleging that Mama Africa was selling drugs in the area of Heilbron in the Fezile Dabi District Municipality.
“The Hawks then followed up on the information.
“On 26 October 2022, a search and seizure operation was conducted by the Hawks and K9 Unit in Welkom at Minani Supermarket in Heilbron where she was found in possession of crushed dagga to the estimated street value of R17 000,” said Singo.
The court sentenced Minani to a fine of R6000 of which R3000 is suspended for five years on condition that she is not convicted of the same offence during the period of suspension.
She is expected to pay R3000 or face six months imprisonment.
