This engagement, scheduled for Thursday, 2nd May 2024, at the Grassland Hall in Bloemfontein, aims to tackle issues surrounding NPO funding amidst the current economic uncertainties.
The Free State Department of Social Development (DSD) views this as a golden opportunity for high-level government figures to discuss directly with the NPO sector. “ The aim of this engagement is to afford the Executive of the Province with an opportunity to engage various issues related to the funding on the backdrop of the Department’s intension towards the transformation of NPO funding given the economic challenges. ,” said DSD Spokesperson, Thembile Nqabeni. With an eye on both the challenges and opportunities, the initiative seeks to refine the support structure for NPOs fundamentally.
Adding to the significance of the event, the Department will mobilise its resources, including collaborations with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the National Development Agency (NDA), to launch an Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme. This initiative will welcome partnerships with the Department of Labour, Home Affairs, and other key stakeholders, marking a holistic approach towards community development and support.
One of the most anticipated announcements is the permanent placement of 121 Social Workers across the province. This move is geared towards fostering “A caring and self-reliant society” as it aligns with the Department’s objective to instil transformation by empowering community members.
“ The appointment of the social workers will also promote transformation in our communities by building conscious and capable citizens through provision of psycho – social support and integrated social development services. ,” said Nqabeni.
