Four suspects nabbed after possible robbery prevented

Welkom – Four suspects to be in possession of firearms were arrested as they allegedly attempted to commit robberies around Lejweleputswa region on Monday 05 July.

“…members of Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Welkom followed an intelligence driven information about possible four males suspected to be in possession of firearms, with the intention to commit robberies around Lejweleputswa,” said Police Spokesperson Colonel Thandi Mbambo.

According to Colonel Mbambo, the suspects were reported to be traveling from Virginia to Henneman with a Grey Hyundai Getz.

The described and confiscated vehicle was seen at Henneman at least 22:00 and approached by the police officials.

“The vehicle with four occupants was searched and two (02) firearms, a Noringo Pistol 9mm with (05) ammunition and Petro Baretta 9mm (09) Ammunition, both with serial numbers filed off were found,” said Colonel Mbambo.

During the arrest, all four suspects who are aged between 27 and 37 failed to produce licenses to possess firearms.

All four suspects are expected to appear at Hennenman Magistrate Court on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Wednesday 7 July 2021.

Meanwhile, on Monday 5 July 2021 at about 22:00, the Welkom Public Order Police Reaction Team deployed in Bethlehem arrested four alleged drug dealers in Bohlokong.

This is after the police officials received information about someone allegedly dealing in drugs in a certain house in Bohlokong.

“The said house was visited and police found three young men inside a stationary vehicle in the yard at Giyani location, Bohlokong, Bethlehem. They were searched and arrested after they were found in possession of drugs,” said Colonel Mbambo.

The three suspects found in a stationary vehicle aged between 24, 31 and 33, were found with two plastic bags of Crystal Meth 4 medium Crystal Meth sachets, 23 small Crystal Meth sachets and 1 Kat drug and cash.

“The team proceeded to the back room and a 33 year old foreign national for was arrested after he was also found in possession of drugs. 

Eight plastic bags of Crystal Meth weighing 840g, a Legend Scale, a Blue Max Scale, a Diamond Scale and drugs valued at about R100 000 were found and seized,” said Colonel Mbambo.
