Hawks
Gauteng Police have apprehended four individuals in connection with the murder of Lieutenant Colonel Sikhetho, a hawks officer whose body was discovered in an open field in Tsakane on Monday, 8th January 2024.
The suspects, all between the ages of 23 and 44, were taken into custody in the early hours of Wednesday, 17th January 2024 with the collaborative efforts of the East Rand Serious Organised Crime Investigation team of the Hawks, Gauteng Traffic’s Special Law Enforcement Unit (SLEU), and Ekurhuleni Metro Police’s Saturation Task Team (STT).
Police spokesperson Colonel Philani Nkwalase reported that the family of the deceased had last been in contact with him on 6th January 2024 when he was traveling to Durban for work, but had been reported missing.
The multi-agency operation resulted in the arrest and seizure of the deceased officer’s personal items, including a cellphone, laptop, service pistol with live ammunition, car jack, wallet, running shoes, suitcase, keys, cooler box, and a knife. Additionally, the burnt vehicle that was hijacked was also located.
National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, commended the swift and efficient work of the law enforcement agencies involved, expressing appreciation for the joint efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The suspects are set to appear in Tsakane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 19th January 2024, with preliminary charges including murder, kidnapping, and hijacking.
