Police Shootout
By Mpho Moloi
Four suspects wanted for multiple murders in Inanda were shot and killed during a confrontation with police on the M4 Highway near Umlazi, south of Durban, on Tuesday afternoon.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda reported that authorities had received intelligence about the suspects’ location. When officers attempted to apprehend them at a mall in Umlazi, the suspects fled, leading to a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, the suspects opened fire on the police, who returned fire to protect themselves and other road users. All four suspects were fatally wounded in the exchange.
No police officers were injured during the incident. Three firearms were recovered from the scene. The deceased were linked to at least three murder cases in Inanda, including two double homicides committed in March and April 2025.
