Justin Shonga, a former forward for Orlando Pirates, has tragically passed away at the age of 27 following a brief illness. The Zambian Football Association (FAZ) confirmed his death early this morning. Shonga was reportedly undergoing treatment at Sikanze Police Hospital when he succumbed to his illness.

Sporting Career and Achievements

Shonga, born in Chipata, Zambia, began his football career with Nkwazi FC in Zambia before moving to South Africa to join Orlando Pirates in 2017. During his time with the Pirates, Shonga quickly gained recognition for his remarkable skill, agility, and knack for finding the back of the net.

In addition to his stint with Orlando Pirates, Shonga also played for other significant teams in the ABSA Premiership and beyond. These include Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and Cape Town City FC. His versatility and goal-scoring prowess made him a sought-after player in leagues both locally and internationally.

Most recently, Justin Shonga had joined Najran SC in Saudi Arabia’s Second Division in February 2023. Despite the brief period with the club, he made a notable impact.

Confirmed by FAZ and Zambia Police

The Zambian Football Association confirmed the death of the former Chipolopolo forward in a heartfelt statement. “Former Chipolopolo forward Justin Shonga has died,” it read. Zambia Police Deputy Spokesperson Dan Mwale, in an interview with the FAZ Media Team, added, “Mwale said Shonga died at Sikanze Police Hospital after a short illness. More details will be availed in due course.”

A Remarkable Legacy

Despite his young age, Justin Shonga left a remarkable legacy in the world of football. His contributions to the sport in Zambia and South Africa were significant. He represented Zambia at international levels, showing exceptional skill and sportsmanship. Shonga’s dynamic playing style, combined with his dedication to the sport, earned him admiration and respect from fans and peers alike.
