Jamal Simmons, former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris, has proposed that President Joe Biden resign within the next 30 days. This move would enable Harris to become the 47th President of the United States, thereby preventing President-elect Donald Trump from assuming office on 20 January 2025.

Simmons articulated his perspective during a CNN segment, stating, “Joe Biden has been a remarkable president, fulfilling many of his promises. However, there’s one final promise he could still keep: serving as a transitional figure.” He further suggested that Harris’s brief presidency would disrupt Trump’s momentum following his re-election.

This proposal emerges amid internal criticism from Democratic figures who contend that Biden’s leadership may have contributed to Harris’s electoral defeat. Some argue that Biden’s decision to remain on the Democratic ticket, despite low approval ratings, hindered Harris’s campaign efforts.

The U.S. Constitution stipulates a four-month transition period before the new president assumes office on 20 January. Simmons believes that Harris assuming the presidency temporarily would be a bold move, potentially altering public perceptions of the Democratic Party’s strategy.
