Johannesburg – The former Minister of Defence and Military, Nosiviwe Noluthando Mapisa-Nqakula who is expected to be named as the new National Assembly Speaker on Thursday, is reportedly under investigation for corruption.
This is after President Cyril Ramaphosa removed her from his Cabinet earlier this month, as the minister of Defence and Military Veterans.
“Minister NosiviweMapisa-Nqakula will be deployed to a new position, and we thank her for service to the nation and dedication to her responsibilities,” Ramaphosa said.
Ramaphosa said this was an effort to fill key vacancies in the executive.
“These include vacancies created by the tragic passing of Minister Jackson Mthembu and Deputy Minister BavelileHlongwa, and the appointment of former Deputy Minister Parks Tau as an MEC in Gauteng,” Ramaphosa said.
It has been reported that she allegedly received a R5 million bribe from a defence contractor and blew R7 million on aircraft charters while living it up at luxury hotels.
According to reports Parliament’s joint standing committee on Defence appointed a task team to investigate the allegations against her two months ago.
