By Thys Khiba – “This is not a shame for us. We were a team until the end. There is more quality than six months ago.”
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has responded to the 5-0 by France on Tuesday evening in Lille by saying that playing against the French team wasn’t about the result, it was about the experience.
This is after the South African national football team had no answers to the world cup champions France, dismantled in front of 50 000 supporters that packed the Stade Pierre Mauron in Lille.
“We knew coming into this game what we were coming up against. There was a difference of level between the two teams, but for us it wasn’t about the result, it was about the experience we have gained here today,” Broos said.
Broos admitted that his team didn’t have the experience and quality to beat the French side of superstars Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Adrien Rabiot and Matteo Guendouzi.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward Mbappe scored twice for the home side during the demolition of South Africa.
“We are a young team, therefore we don’t have the experience and quality of the French team. We tried our best today but the talent of our opposition was just too much, so we are not embarrassed by this scoreline.”
Meanwhile, Broos was impressed by the performance of Siyanda Xulu and Nkosinathi Sibisi.
“Xulu and Sibisi were also good but as a team we do not have enough quality to fight and be the equal of France.”
