Copper Cable Thievery Ring Brought to Light in Parys
The Fezile Dabi District Highway Patrol apprehended five men for possession of stolen copper cables in the CBD of Parys on Wednesday. Copper cables worth an estimated R63,000 were recovered from their possession.
The quintet, found in a white Mazda loaded with the incriminating cables and aged between 32 and 45, are on the docket to face the Parys Magistrate Court this coming Friday, charged with the grave offence of copper cable possession.
Providing insight into the operation, Sergeant Josephine Rani relayed the sequence of events leading to the pivotal arrest. “On Wednesday, 24 April 2024, in the early hours at around 03:45, the members were vigilant on their patrol when they were tipped about a white Mazda implicated in the theft of batteries in the North West vicinity.” As the dawn crept over Parys, this tip-off became the cornerstone of their mission.
Rani further said, “It was further alleged that the vehicle was navigating the R59 stretch between Viljoenskroon and Parys.” Aided by this intelligence, the patrol intensified their watch within the Parys CBD, ultimately spotting and intercepting the notorious white Mazda.
The arrest was the culmination of a tactful approach and a thorough vehicle search by the patrol team, which revealed the bundles of copper cable hidden within. Adding a layer of complexity to the case, Rani disclosed, “It was further established that two of the suspects were undocumented persons.”
