World football governing body, FIFA secretary-general, Fatma Samoura who is in the country, has lavished praise on SAFA for promoting women’s football and providing opportunities for women all round within the game.
The SG who is accompanied by Chief Women’s Football Officer, Sarai Bareman during her historic visit to South Africa, spent most of the Friday afternoon at SAFA House. She was met by among others, SAFA President (Dr Danny Jordaan), SAFA COO (Lydia Monyepao), Banyana Banyana coach (Desiree Ellis) and the Gauteng SAFA Regional leadership.
During her visit, the FIFA SG visited the SAFA Constitutional Congress and praised the work being done to empower women and provide them with endless opportunities.
She also was impressed by SAFA’s newly established and popular Hollywoodbets Super League that has lately galvanised the sport among women. The SG said as a result of this popularity, women football in the country was growing in leaps and bounds and the noticeable spin offs were being realised by Banyana Banyana’s phenomenal recent results.
Today, the SG will be in Durban where she will watch the CAF Women’s Champions League (COSAFA Region) final between South Africa’s reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies versus Zimbabwe’s Black Rhinos.
The winner will progress to the inaugural continental championships that will take place in Cairo, Egypt later this year.
On Tuesday, 7 September, the FIFA SG and her team will attend a SAFA workshop with the headline sponsors from various sectors including women football sponsors. @source : safa
