By Thys Khiba – Mpumalanga Police officers arrested and charged three malesuspects, aged 29, 29 and 43 in connection with farm robbery on Wednesday morning.
“The men are said to have robbed her of several items including undisclosed amount of cash, airgun, tools, a grinder, house keys, a bag, and other items before they fled the scene,” said Police Provincial Spokesperson, Brigadier Selby Mohlala
This is after police were informed at around 09:00 about the robbery, which took place at 07:30.
“The three male suspects went to the farm under the pretence of being potential customers of livestock. Once they were let in, the three held a 60-year-old female (farm owner) together with her helper hostage.”
The two of the three suspects were swiftly concerned along the N17 Road, whilst the third one was arrested next to another farm nearby.
The three suspects are expected to appear at Leslie Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 09 September facing charges of possession of suspected stolen properties.
The three could face a possibility of more charges against them and being linked to other crimes committed elsewhere as the investigation progresses.
In August, the province experienced a similar incident of a farm robbery in Badfontein Bambi in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga.
It was reported that three armed men arrived at the farmstead on foot and tied up a family of three and continued to ransack their house.
Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela encouraged other stakeholders to join police officers in fighting crime to create a safer environment.
“Working with other stakeholders in the fight against crime seems to produce positive results and it gives us joy to be experiencing such successes.”
