JOHANNESBURG – Rand Water has announced a comprehensive infrastructure maintenance programme set to begin this Saturday and continue until the end of July. This essential work forms a crucial part of their winter maintenance strategy.

Key Maintenance Areas and Objectives

According to Rand Water, the maintenance serves multiple purposes, including preserving the quality and integrity of the infrastructure, reducing long-term maintenance costs, and extending the lifespan of water assets. A well-maintained infrastructure ensures an uninterrupted water supply for both present and future generations.

“Proactive infrastructure maintenance is important to preserve the quality and integrity of the infrastructure, reduce maintenance costs in the long term and increase the life span of the infrastructure and assets. A maintained water infrastructure ensures uninterrupted water supply for the current and future generation,” said a Rand Water spokesperson.

Their approach is guided by a robust Asset Management Strategy aimed at managing technical maintenance, asset lifecycles, and maximising asset value. The maintenance process includes both proactive (planned) and unplanned activities. Scheduled proactive maintenance is the cornerstone of their strategy for maintaining the quality, integrity, and longevity of their infrastructure.

Initial Focus: Eikenhof System in Mogale

This Saturday, the maintenance will commence with the Eikenhof System in Mogale. Rand Water has reassured customers that there will be no service interruptions in this initial phase.

Coordination with Municipalities

The organisation has been in ongoing discussions with its municipal clients to ensure a well-coordinated effort. Municipalities have been given a 21-day notice period to prepare, implement contingency plans, manage storage capacity, and inform their customers accordingly.

“We have engaged with our municipal customers, continue to engage and officially notified them about the upcoming maintenance project to ensure that they have a 21-day period to plan, put appropriate contingency plans in place, manage storage capacity prior and during the maintenance period and inform their customers accordingly,” added the spokesperson.

Rand Water has made the full maintenance schedule available on their website for public access. Impacted municipalities are expected to relay important information to their residents about the extent of water supply disruptions and the contingency measures being implemented.

Details of the maintenance schedule are available on their official website.

Ongoing Communication and Updates

Rand Water has committed to providing regular updates throughout the maintenance period to keep all stakeholders informed. This effort underscores their commitment to transparency and service excellence.

“Impacted Municipalities are requested to advise their customers on the extent and impact of water supply and on contingency plans that will be put in place. Rand Water will provide updates throughout the maintenance period,” reiterated the spokesperson.
