Eskom
Eskom has declared that loadshedding will be suspended until Sunday at 16:00. This decision comes as a result of sustained available generation capacity and the planned return to service of 2,300 megawatts (MW) of generation capacity by Friday. Moreover, a dip in demand over the long weekend has contributed to this positive development, providing much-needed relief to both residential and business customers.
Eskom, the country’s primary electricity supplier, shared the news on Wednesday, indicating a temporary alleviation of the power cuts that have become a frequent inconvenience. The decision to halt loadshedding activities until the mentioned time is largely attributed to the strategic planning and additional generation capacity expected to bolster the power grid.
The utility has also committed to keeping the public informed about the power supply situation. Eskom pledged to provide an update for the week ahead on Sunday afternoon. Additionally, they promised to communicate promptly should there be any significant changes that might affect the power supply situation moving forward.
With the evening peak demand for electricity projected to reach 27,465MW tonight, Eskom’s announcement comes as a sigh of relief. This suspension period provides Eskom with a window to manage its resources more effectively, ensuring that the power grid remains stable during times of higher demand.
