[BREAKING NEWS] ESKOM MOVES TO STAGE 4 LOADSHEDDING

Eskom

In an encouraging move for South African consumers, Eskom has announced the suspension of loadshedding during specific time windows on Saturday and Sunday.

This decision has been made in light of improved generation availability and the anticipated lower demand over the weekend.

Loadshedding, a power management strategy to prevent blackouts, will be suspended between 05:00 and 16:00 on both days.

However, starting from 16:00 until 05:00 the following day, Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented. Eskom has also confirmed that Stage 3 loadshedding will continue to be enforced from 16:00 until 05:00 on Saturday. Nonetheless, the company assures the public that it will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes regarding loadshedding if necessary.

Currently, Eskom faces challenges with breakdowns amounting to a capacity loss of 14,266MW. Planned maintenance also contributes to the capacity loss, with 5,388MW out of service.

Despite these setbacks, Eskom has successfully returned a generating unit at Hendrina Power Station to service. Repairs are underway on a unit each at Arnot, Duvha, Ingula, and Vanderkloof power stations.

Eskom’s dedicated teams are working tirelessly to expedite the return of additional generating units to service.

To meet the evening peak demand, Eskom forecasts a load requirement of 27,606MW. The company urges the public to continue reducing demand by turning off non-essential appliances.

Eskom extends gratitude to those who have heeded the call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently, including powering down geysers and pool pumps between the hours of 17:00 and 21:00. This collective effort not only eases demand pressure but also contributes to lower stages of loadshedding.
