Eskom
Eskom has declared the reinstatement of Stage 3 loadshedding starting from 8pm tonight till 5am on Friday in a move that seems to be a drastic measure to refill the depleting dam levels at the utility’s pumped storage power stations. This decision comes shortly after the power company had informed the public that loadshedding would be put on hold until further notice.
It appears residents and businesses will have to endure another round of power cuts after enjoying a brief respite from the outages that have become a staple in the South African life. The company has stressed that after the period of Stage 3 loadshedding, power supply is expected to return to normal from early Friday morning until the afternoon.
“Eskom will provide an update on Friday afternoon or if any significant changes occur,” the power utility proclaims, implying that the situation is fluid and adjustments to the loadshedding schedule could be made if necessary.
The soaring unplanned outages stand stable at 14,366 megawatts while planned maintenance has seen a slight increase to 6,307 megawatts. According to the power giant, “The anticipated electricity demand for this evening peak is 25,672 megawatts.”
