In an effort to provide an update on the current loadshedding situation, Eskom has announced that Stage 4 loadshedding was implemented at 14:00 this afternoon and will be in effect until 05:00 on Saturday.

Following that, Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from 05:00 on Saturday until 16:00, followed by Stage 4 until 05:00 on Sunday. This cycle will be repeated on Sunday as well.

Eskom has assured the public that any significant changes will be promptly communicated in another update statement.

The power utility has reported that breakdowns have resulted in a decrease of 16 468MW in generating capacity, while scheduled maintenance has taken out another 4 601MW from service.

In the last 24 hours, a generating unit at Camden Power Station was taken offline for repairs, while units at Arnot, Grootvlei, Kendal, and Majuba power stations were successfully brought back into service. However, the return to service of a generating unit at Matla Power Station has been delayed, adding to the current constraints on capacity.

Eskom’s dedicated teams are working tirelessly to address these issues and restore the generating units to full functionality.

The load forecast for the evening peak demand stands at 27 760MW, and Eskom urges the public to continue reducing electricity consumption by turning off non-essential appliances.

Eskom extends their gratitude to those individuals who have been heeding the call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently.

Specifically, they appreciate the initiative of switching off geysers and pool pumps from 17:00 to 21:00, as this helps lower demand and alleviates pressure on the power system, ultimately leading to lower levels of loadshedding.
