Eskom Loadshedding

Eskom

Eskom has announced a reduction in loadshedding from Stage 6 to Stage 4, effective from 12:00 midday until 05:00am on Monday. This comes as a relief to many South Africans who have been grappling with the impact of the higher stages of loadshedding in recent days.

According to the power utility, the implementation of Stage 6 loadshedding over the past few days has allowed the replenishment of emergency reserves at pumped storage and Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) power stations. As a result, Eskom will be implementing Stage 3 loadshedding from 05:00am until 16:00 on Monday, followed by Stage 4 loadshedding from 16:00 until 05:00 on Tuesday. This pattern will be repeated daily until Thursday.

The statement from Eskom also revealed that unplanned outages are currently at 15 386MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 5,617MW. Approximately 2,500MW of generating capacity is anticipated to return to service by Tuesday evening, as Eskom teams work tirelessly to restore additional generating units.

Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand is 25,989MW. The power utility thanked those who are using electricity sparingly and efficiently, including switching off geysers and pool pumps from 17:00 to 21:00, as this helps to lower demand and alleviate the pressure on the power system, contributing to lower stages of loadshedding.
