Eskom, South Africa’s power utility, has announced that they will be implementing Stage 1 loadshedding on Tuesday from 5am until 4pm, followed by Stage 3 loadshedding from 4pm until 5am on Wednesday.

This decision comes as a result of ongoing breakdowns and maintenance issues affecting the generating capacity of the electricity grid.

The power utility has stated that Stage 4 loadshedding, which began on Monday at 4pm, will continue until 5am on Tuesday as previously communicated.
This pattern of loadshedding will be implemented on a daily basis until further notice, with Eskom promising to provide updates should any significant changes occur.
According to Eskom, breakdowns have reduced the generating capacity by 15 747MW, while planned maintenance has taken a further 1 946MW out of service.
While some progress has been made in returning generating units at certain power stations to service, delays in the process have contributed to the current capacity constraints.
Eskom’s teams are working tirelessly to rectify the issues and bring these generating units back online. However, with an expected increase in electricity demand towards the weekend, the power utility is calling on the public to assist in reducing demand by switching off non-essential appliances and following energy-saving measures.
They specifically request that households switch off geysers and pool pumps from 17:00 to 21:00, as this helps to alleviate pressure on the power system and contributes to lower stages of loadshedding.
While it may be frustrating for South Africans to endure loadshedding once again, it is important to remember that it is necessary to ensure the stability of the power grid.
By actively participating in energy-saving practices, individuals can do their part in reducing the impact of loadshedding on their daily lives.
