Eskom Loadshedding

The power utility company, Eskom, has declared Stage 4 Loadshedding, which will be in effect from 4 pm today until 5 am on Thursday. Subsequently, other stages of loadshedding will be implemented until Saturday evening.

Eskom attributes the strain on the power generation system to breakdowns in eight generating units. This has resulted in a significant reduction in capacity.

To stay informed about the loadshedding schedule, please refer to the table provided below. Eskom will release another update if any significant changes occur.

The breakdowns have led to a total loss of 19,127 MW of generating capacity, while an additional 2,313 MW is out of service for planned maintenance. However, since Tuesday evening, two generating units at the Grootlei Power Station have been restored to service.

Unfortunately, delays in restoring generating units at the Kendal, Kriel, Matla, and Tutuka power stations are contributing to the current capacity constraints. Eskom assures the public that their teams are working relentlessly to resolve these issues.

Furthermore, electricity demand is expected to rise over the weekend. Therefore, Eskom urges members of the public to play their part in reducing demand by switching off non-essential appliances.

“We are immensely grateful to those who respond to our call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently. Simply switching off geysers and pool pumps between 17:00 and 21:00 can significantly alleviate the pressure on the power system and contribute to lower stages of loadshedding.”

Eskom thanks the public for their cooperation and understanding.
