Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, a member of the African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Electricity Minister, provided an update on the progress made to address the country’s generation capacity and load shedding issues on Saturday .
Ramokgopa shared encouraging news during the ANC NEC meeting Media Briefing, stating that significant strides have been made in improving generation capacity. He confidently asserted that South Africa is on the path to leaving load shedding behind, and the chances of experiencing stage 8 load-shedding, the most severe level, are slim.
One of the key strategies implemented by the government is the identification and isolation of problematic generating units, a measure that has prevented breakdowns from affecting other areas. This proactive approach has been crucial in maintaining a reliable electricity supply for South Africans.
Ramokgopa emphasized the importance of addressing the transmission side of generation to avoid worsening the current situation. Without proper attention to this aspect, the country could face even more critical scenarios in the future.

He acknowledged that further work is required to create an additional buffer reserve margin, enabling the economy to thrive at the desired level.
“I’m very confident load-shedding will be behind us very soon and we begin to work on creating an additional buffer reserve margin to allow the economy to grow at the desired level,” said Ramokgopa.
