EMPD

In a swift operation, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) has arrested seven foreign nationals and recovered a hijacked trailer loaded with goods worth R1.2 million in Benoni. The bust happened on Friday morning, 31 October 2025, following a tip-off about a truck taken earlier that day in Pretoria. This success shows the ongoing fight against hijackings and stolen goods in Gauteng, where such crimes hit businesses and drivers hard. With the suspects set to face court soon, locals hope for stronger safety measures in the area.

Tip-Off Leads to Quick Action

At around 09:02, EMPD Intervention Unit officers, working with private security and Crime Intelligence, moved in on a plot at Gwendeleon Street in Petit, Benoni. They caught the seven men, aged between 25 and 38, in the act of offloading the trailer’s stock. The team acted on solid info about the hijacked truck, tracking it to the site.
During the raid, police not only seized the trailer and its contents but also found more stolen items hidden on the property. These extra goods link back to a theft case from Dawn Park last month, adding to the haul’s value. The trailer’s owner was called in to check and confirm the recovered items, making sure everything matches.

Evidence Processing and Charges

The Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) team stepped in to take fingerprints and gather proof at the scene. The hijacked trailer was then towed to the Van Ryn pound for more checks as part of the probe.
The arrested men, all foreign nationals, are now held at Crystal Park Police Station. They face charges of having a hijacked motor vehicle, holding hijacked stock, and breaking the Immigration Act. They are due in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon, where more details might come out.
