Vanderbijlpark – The Emfuleni Local Municipality, in partnership with Rand Water, has officially announced the establishment of a new water utility aimed at enhancing the delivery of water and sanitation services across the municipality. The initiative is set to address long-standing challenges in the area by ensuring reliable and sustainable water access for residents, businesses, and industries.
The launch event for the new utility is scheduled for 3 November 2024 at the Emerald Resort and Casino in Emfuleni. This utility will assume full responsibility for the implementation, management, and maintenance of water and sanitation systems within Emfuleni, marking a significant step towards improving service delivery in the region.
Rand Water and Emfuleni Local Municipality emphasised that the creation of this utility aligns with national priorities for water security. The utility will focus on sustainable service delivery, transparency, and accountability, restoring public confidence in local water management.
Addressing Long-Standing Challenges in Water and Sanitation
For years, Emfuleni has faced issues with water infrastructure, resulting in intermittent service, poor water quality, and sanitation challenges. The establishment of this utility is intended to tackle these issues head-on, providing a more structured and efficient approach to water management.
The utility’s mandate includes enhancing access to clean water, introducing innovative technology, and promoting environmentally friendly practices. Through these measures, it aims to create a robust and sustainable water and sanitation system that can meet the demands of a growing population.
