EFFSC
The Economic Freedom Fighters Students’ Command (EFFSC) has firmly denied any alliance with the MK Student Movement (MKSM) in the lead-up to the Student Representative Council (SRC) elections at the University of the Free State (UFS). This response comes after a video circulated on social media, showing students singing “Umshini Wami,” a song closely associated with former President Jacob Zuma, while engaging with MKSM members.
In an official statement, EFFSC Acting Secretary General, Khanya Bungane, addressed the claims, stating that the video in question was taken during a Manifesto Launch Debate involving various student formations vying for positions in the upcoming SRC elections at UFS. The EFFSC emphasized that there is no existence of a “Campus Progressive Caucus,” nor is there any political collaboration between the EFFSC and other opposition parties on any South African campuses.
The EFFSC has made it clear that all disciplined members in good standing must continue to run independent campaigns, adhering strictly to the message and principles of the EFF and EFFSC. The student body highlighted that the sole message of the EFFSC has resonated with students across institutions of higher learning, contributing to its growing influence.
Bungane also noted that any EFFSC member found participating in the activities of another political party would be acting outside the party’s constitution. The Secretary General’s Office has taken steps to guide concerned members on the necessary prescripts and revolutionary code of conduct.
This statement comes at a time when the EFFSC is gaining traction in various SRC elections across South Africa, notably securing significant victories against rival student organizations aligned with the ANC and DA. The EFFSC continues to assert its commitment to mobilizing South Africa’s youth behind the struggle for Economic Freedom, as outlined in the EFF’s Founding Manifesto.
The EFFSC has reiterated that there will be “no tolerance” for attempts to undermine its successes as it remains focused on its mission to empower the youth in the struggle for economic liberation.
