EFF Provincial Secretary Bosanku Msimanga
The EFF Free State has expressed its strong opposition to the decision by the Free State Human Settlements Department, under the leadership of MEC Toto Makume, to award the Free State 2000 RDP Project to a single contractor.
In a recent interview, MEC Makume emphasized that the current tender has been specifically designed to address the issue of incomplete houses. Therefore, it is crucial to find a contractor with sufficient financial resources to ensure successful completion.
According to Makume, the PPPFMA act does not allow executive authorities, including HIM, to participate in any tender processes. “However, it is important to understand that executive authorities primarily handle policies and budget injunctions. In fact, I made a budget injunction in April to prioritize the completion of unfinished houses. These houses were left unfinished, mainly by some of the emerging businesses.” said Makume
In a recent interview with Central News, EFF Provincial Secretary Bosanku Msimanga voiced his disappointment in MEC Makume’s response to the issue, highlighting the pressing challenges of unemployment, poverty, and joblessness faced by the people of the free state.
Msimanga emphasized the urgent need for an inclusive approach to the housing project, stating that if the MEC truly wants to address the housing crisis and accelerate the process, the tender must be unbundled and shared among several construction companies.
Msimanga called on these companies to unite and refuse to be reduced to mere pawns, urging them to demand a meeting with the Department and MEC to discuss and address the concerns of the local community.
“By canceling the current tender and accommodating the people of the free state, Msimanga believes that unemployment can be effectively reduced and the local economy can flourish.”said Msimanga
Interestingly, the ANC Free State Spokesperson, Jabu Mbalula, has chosen not to comment on the matter, leaving room for speculation on the ANC’s stance regarding the project.
