EFF Extends Heartfelt Condolences Following Fatal ANC Bus Crash

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have extended their heartfelt condolences to the ANC and the families of the nine individuals who tragically lost their lives in a bus accident near Dumbe Dam, outside Paulpietersburg in KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday morning. The bus involved in the horrific incident was carrying ANC supporters back from the party’s manifesto launch held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

According to the information released by authorities, the bus overturned on the R33 road near Paulpietersburg. Around 70 additional passengers were injured in the accident, and paramedics were swiftly dispatched to the scene, with several injured individuals already hospitalised.

The ANC’s manifesto launch took place on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, and it is understood that the bus commuters were making their return journey after having attended the political event.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed the details of the incident. “Police and various emergency services are on the scene of a bus accident on the R33 between Vryheid and Paulpietersburg in KwaZulu-Natal,” Mathe reported, providing an official account of the emergency response underway.

The EFF, in a statement, expressed a sentiment of unity and compassion regardless of political affiliation. “In this period of elections, where contestation is high and animosity between political parties characterises relations, it is important to show humanity and empathy in tragedies of this nature. It is a painful moment for not only the ANC and its membership but for all South Africans, as those who passed away did so returning from expressing their support for their political party, and after expressing their democratic will at a political event.”

Continuing, the EFF shared their hope for solace among those affected. “The EFF mourns with the leadership of the ANC, the membership and all the families of the deceased, and we hope their souls rest in perfect and eternal peace,” the statement concluded.
