In yet another intelligence-driven operation, the Durban Police attached to the Harbour have successfully seized cocaine worth R80 million at a warehouse within the King Shaka International Airport.

The police had been tracking various containers arriving in the country via the Durban Harbour from Brazil. On Friday afternoon, they finally tracked a specific container to the Dube Trade Port where they discovered 228 blocks of concealed cocaine. Interestingly, the drugs were disguised as meat boxes, making their detection more challenging.

This recent bust follows another drug seizure just two days ago, where R70 million worth of cocaine was found hidden in a container at the Durban Harbour. The police are currently investigating both cases of drug trafficking and working to determine the final destination of these drugs.

General Fannie Masemola, the National Commissioner of the SAPS, has praised the team responsible for disrupting transnational crimes related to drug movements. He emphasized the SAPS’ dedication to dismantling organized crime and protecting the communities they serve. General Masemola also warned those involved in illegal drug activities to surrender before facing the consequences.

Furthermore, the SAPS is actively cooperating with law enforcement agencies worldwide to combat these illicit activities. By enhancing their collaboration, they hope to crack down on drug trafficking and associated crimes more effectively.

The investigation of this case will be handed over to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (HAWKS), suggesting the seriousness and complexity of the operation.
