Loadshedding

Eskom, South Africa’s state-owned electricity utility, announced on Sunday that loadshedding will remain suspended due to the continued improvement in the performance of its generation fleet. The emergency reserves have fully recovered, allowing Eskom to avoid implementing any load shedding until Tuesday at 16:00.

However, Eskom also indicated that Stage 1 load shedding will be implemented on Tuesday from 4pm until 5am on Wednesday. After that, load shedding will be suspended from 5am until 4pm, followed by Stage 1 load shedding from 4pm until 5am on Thursday. This pattern will be repeated daily until further notice.

Currently, the breakdowns in Eskom’s generation fleet are at 13,559MW, with planned maintenance standing at 4,765MW. The demand forecast for the evening peak is 25,054MW.

Eskom assured the public that it will promptly communicate any significant changes that may occur.
